Fuquay-Varina, NC - Surrounded by the love of her care givers, Thelma Louise Moore Troutman transitioned to heaven on the morning of Thursday March 29, 2018. Thelma was born on October 22, 1928 to Earl Lawrence Moore and Alma Louise Walkup. Her mother passed away due to childbirth complications shortly after Thelma’s birth. Thelma was raised by James Henry and Mary Walkup Horne. Mary was Earl Moore’s sister. Thelma considered Henry and Mary to be her parents. Earl, her biological father, moved to Jacksonville, Florida and remarried. However, Earl did visit Thelma periodically. Mary and Henry offered to adopt Thelma, but Thelma chose to retain the Moore name.
On October 20, 1951, Thelma married Roy Pressley Troutman. They were blessed with two children, Mary Ann Troutman (Basking Ridge, New Jersey) and Alma Louise Troutman (Cary, NC). Thelma and Roy enjoyed fifty-one years of marriage and lived most of that time in Hickory, NC. Thelma and Roy moved to Windsor Point Retirement community located in Fuquay Varina, NC in November of 2013.
Thelma was a registered nurse (RN) and had a varied career working in an OB/GYN physician’s office, private duty, medical/surgical hospital floor, hospital surgical unit, hospital recovery room and as an Occupational Health RN in the textile industry. During her life Thelma touched many individuals due to her calling as an RN and her compassionate nature.
In addition to her daughters, Thelma is survived by her sister, Peggy Horne Turner (Valdosta, Georgia), sister in law and brother in law, Claude and Betty Jean Young (Pittsboro, NC), sister in law JoAnn Stone (Davidson, NC) and brother-in -law, Joe Troutman(Charlotte) and numerous nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank Windsor Point Independent Plus and Skilled Nursing staff for the compassion and care given to Thelma over the years. We would also like to recognize the private duty staff that cared for Thelma beginning in 2014: Pam DeNault, Angel McLeod, Ernestine Cofield, Kathy Richardson, Silvia Grijalva and many others. Their care and compassion greatly improved the quality of Thelma’s life.

I enjoyed getting to know Thelma during my visits to Windsor Point. She was a very special lady and I am going to miss her. My sympathy to all of her family.
