Robert Walters "Bob" Wagstaff




Robert Walters "Bob" Wagstaff, 85, of Fuquay-Varina, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 9, 2017 after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel, 401 N Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina. The family will receive family and friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Bob was a Veteran of the U. S. Army for four years, after which he spent the entirety of his civilian career at Fayetteville's Fort Bragg military base working in telecommunications. After retiring in 1995, Bob could be found any number of places supporting his grandchildren's hobbies, whether that be at a horse show, a baseball game or an orchestra concert. When he was at home, you could almost certainly find him tinkering on something, cars, lawnmowers, anything with a motor.

Bob married his wife of 63 years on Christmas Eve, 1954. Affectionately known as "Papa", Bob was preceded in death by his parents the late, Iva Mildred and Alton Shelvie Wagstaff; brother, Alton Shelvie Jr.; sister, Mildred; and brother, James.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children, Rickie, Kathy and Susan, all of Fuquay-Varina; three grandchildren; granddaughter, Jessica Kirkland and husband, Shawn of Fuquay-Varina, grandson, Bryant Clark and wife, Jody of Erwin and granddaughter, Katie Lutz and husband, Cameron of Lincolnton; a great-grandson, Jacob Lutz; as well as two step great-granddaughters, Bailey and Hayden Johnson. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Lee Rollins, as well as multiple nieces, nephews and many additional family members and friends.
