Obituary

Fuquay-Varina - Patricia Sonnier Delaria, 60, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017, after a long illness, with her family by her side. Patti, as she was known, was a wife, mother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
She was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she graduated from El Dorado High School. She left Albuquerque for her father’s hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana, to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she became a Ragin Cajun. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. It was in Lafayette that she met her future husband, Don. Once married they lived in Lafayette until 1987, when they moved to Cary, NC. Cary, and later Fuquay-Varina, was where they made their home and raised their two boys.

Patti worked for American Airlines for 27 years, and through her work she was able to enjoy her love of travel. She and Don traveled the world, enjoying many places most just dream of visiting. But it was home and her family that meant the most to her. Her love of family showed in everything she did from beautifully wrapping the smallest package to hosting large family gatherings. She was devoted to her family and friends, and her passing will leave a void to those who loved her.

Patti is survived by her husband of 34 years, Donald D. Delaria, Jr.; son, Donald D. Delaria, III and wife, Anna; son, Samuel Delaria; brothers, Mike Sonnier, Frank Sonnier and Steve Sonnier; mother-in-Law, Jo Delaria; sister-in-law, Sherry Malia; and niece, Claire Malia; numerous other nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Patti’s life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday June 22, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel, 401 N Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina, NC. The family will receive friends following the Celebration at the funeral home.
